An enjoyable day was had by all those attending the Reedham Station event organised by the Reedham Children’s Trust.

This was to unveil some new signs cementing the station’s links to Reedham and the Trust. The Mayor of Croydon joined with the local Councillor, representatives from the other Andrew Reed trusts, Reedham Trust board members, local school children (all waving their flags), local residents, Old Scholars and the band from Coulsdon College (formally Purley Grammar School for Boys). Derrick Smith gave a short talk on the history of the station and it’s links with the old school. After the formalities everyone was invited back to the Lodge for refreshments and to browse the memorabilia and photo archives.

Later in the afternoon Michael Howells, who is a resident on the Reedham Estate, took a group from The Lodge for a tour of the old site. They were most fortunate in that Michael had also obtained permission from the Residents Associations for us to walk around areas that were now private property and so were able to get to the top of the steps leading up from the road to the old drive leading up to the main entrance of the old school building. Michael has made a grand job of clearing and cleaning the old steps, which you can see from the photos, and for which we are most grateful. Michael then showed the group around the old swimming baths and the restored Aveling Chapel memorial.
