The Reedham Children’s Trust is a grant making body, which supports children who, through the death or disablement of one or both parents are in urgent need of assistance and care, or who because of their circumstances are at risk or cannot be cared for adequately in the home environment. Origins of The Reedham Children’s Trust

Due to the efforts of Congregational Minister the Rev. Dr Andrew Reed, Reedham originated in 1844 as “The Asylum for Fatherless Children”, later to become the Reedham Orphanage, then Reedham School.  During the 1950s and 1960s the changing social scene led to a decline in the population at the school and in 1979 the Board reluctantly decided to close the school and sell the buildings and land.  To continue the principles of Dr Andrew Reed a Trust was created to provide income to be used to provide boarding grants to the same type of children the founder would have helped or to children in desperate circumstances resulting from modern problems.

Today

Today The Reedham Children’s Trust helps to support approximately 130 children in boarding schools (both state and independent) throughout the country where they can be provided with a caring and stable environment. We currently work with 65 boarding schools.  Parents may apply for assistance at any boarding school.  The schools are very different, and will suit different children.
