Southwark Cathedral Service

After the first hymn, we heard a drama presentation by the pupils of Beaumont School entitled ‘Reedham: A look into the past’ which gave the history of Andrew Reed and the establishment of the school. People attending the service commented on how impressed they were that over the years Beaumont Primary School have continued to perpetuate the memory of Reedham.

This was followed by the choristers at King’s Ely Sue, Emmanuelle and Indea who sang ‘Peace unto you’ by Robert Pearsall (1795-1865),

Tali Atvars (our ROSA Chair), accompanied by Gigi (a current Reedham Trust beneficiary), read Matthew 25:34-40.

Delores Taylor, a parent of one the Reedham Trust beneficiaries, spoke about the present work of the Trust and the positive impact on her family.

Reed’s School Choir sang a very beautiful rendition of Gabriel Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine, which was followed by a sermon from the Bishop of Croydon.

Deborah Welham, Chair of the Reedham Children’s Trust then updated us on the work of the Trust going forward.

The service was followed by an afternoon tea reception in the Retrochoir at the back of the Cathedral.

Old Scholars Reunion

A group of us moved on to the ‘Mug House’ for a light lunch and a chance to chat before making our way home. It was good so see some new attendees, as well as our regulars. 

During some of our chats we were reminded of some of the antics that the girls got up to and we are sure many of you will recall ‘apple pie beds’, sheets being taken off beds so we could drag girls down the slippery wooden corridor, pillow fights, ghost stories of Andrew Reed and the Chapel, raiding the tuck cupboard for midnight feasts and many other escapades.

We were also reminded that Reedham used to have its own Scouts and Guides. How many of you remember the Guides and the Scouts at Reedham, and going to camp?

From the ‘boys’, among many humorous tales we heard stories of running away and  taking a bag of sweets to live on until they got home by either bus or walking. Most runaways were picked up fairly quickly and taken back to be punished.   Our senior members recalled how the Reedham regime prepared them well for entering the Forces.

All in all, it was an enjoyable day, bringing us all together and rekindling memories.
